Dr. David Jeffries - Therapist

PSYCHOLOGIST

David Jeffries, Ph.D. (he/him/his)

As a therapist I work with the LGBQT+ community, BIPOC people, & couples experiencing a range of symptoms and life stressors. I believe that therapy & psychological care should be supported by research to effectively address the biological and social factors that impact our overall well-being.

Over the past 12 years, I have helped people from diverse backgrounds experiencing:

  • LGBTQ+ issues

  • anxiety

  • couples & relationship issues

  • depression

  • grief

  • insomnia

  • trauma

  • life adjustments

  • relationship transitions

Using evidence-based treatments including:

Information is integrated with best practices for clinical care throughout therapy to best address mental health concerns and cultivate healthy coping. I also work as needed with other providers, partners, and family members to reinforce a thoughtful plan for treatment. Mindfulness techniques also play a prominent role in my work to reinforce a presence of mind while facing life’s questions and challenges.

I have advanced training and clinical competence in mental health concerns for LGBTQ+-identifying folks and people of color. I also have years of clinical experience working with military veterans, active law enforcement, and people with a history of psychiatric treatment. Choosing to engage in psychotherapy is courageous and deliberate work. Like all work, it is worthy of a safe space—that safety is something I strive to sustain in our time together as we work through and towards your goals.

Prior to psychology I worked in consulting and journalism in Japan and New York City. I went back to school and earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I also have a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College, where I studied Japanese language and cultural history under an East Asian Studies major. I have trained locally in psychology at Bellevue Hospital Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Beyond work, I enjoy most movies, and haven’t met an animal I didn’t love.
