Our approach to clients

At SoHo CBT Therapy + Mindfulness Center, we recognize that we all want to be happy. However, happiness is just one of a myriad of emotions that we all experience. Accordingly, we not only need to enjoy happy feelings, but cultivate ways to change and allow more difficult, painful emotions. By getting in touch with our values and goals, we engage with what’s meaningful and develop ways to love our lives, even when things are stressful or overwhelming.

Everyone’s needs and goals are unique. You may enter our office with a variety of concerns, and we work together on a tailor-made approach to address your concerns and help you get where you want to be in life. We offer evidence-based and cutting-edge treatments, ranging from traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to newer psychotherapies, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Self-Compassion Therapy, Taoist Cognitive Therapy, Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and mindfulness-based therapy.  Caring and compassionate, we provide care that is practical, results-driven, growth-oriented, and sensitive to people’s culture, identities, and positionalities.

Our Center’s 5 Values

Growth

Life is about more than overcoming problems. We help you grow and learn as part of your therapy experience. Further, we consistently promote our own professional development.

Integrity

We see our work as a sacred privilege. We are entrusted to care for people’s lives, and we strive to make sure that we are providing the best possible care.

DEI commitment

We are committed to promoting DEI for our patients, our group, and the world at large. We consistently help people from historically marginalized groups in therapy. For the purpose of collective liberation, we provide training, conduct research, reflect personally and collectively, and try to address problematic dynamics and power imbalances in the world.

Community

We exist in relationships with others. As opposed to independence, Interdependence (or inter-being or ubuntu) more accurately describes our positioning in the world. So, we regularly provide support for people in our communities through workshops and psychotherapy. We have conducted training for school teachers on mindfulness, stress management, critical consciousness, and other topics. During the COVID pandemic, we provided free psychotherapy to first responders (i.e., doctors and nurses) and their support staff.

Well-being

We value well-being for our patients and ourselves. We can get so caught-up in the busyness of our lives that we forget that we’re human beings, not human doings. Periodically, we need to slow down and relax. As service providers, we know that we need to be functioning well too in order to give the best possible care for our patients.
